Fox Rent A Car Officially Opens 4th Florida Location
Fox Rent A Car announced the opening of the Ft. Lauderdale location, which joins the three other Florida Fox Rent A Car locations that opened this year in Orlando, Tampa and Miami.
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 13, 2012
Los Angeles-based Fox Rent A Car is officially open for business in the state of Florida, the company announced June 12. Over the past few months, Fox has opened four different locations in the state including in Orlando, Tampa, Miami and Ft. Lauderdale.
“The opening of these locations in Florida is a big step in our continued expansion,” said Joe Knight, VP of business development for Fox. “When we committed to this plan, it became a company-wide initiative and we successfully completed the opening of all four locations within a few months.”
Fox joined Orlando in January 2012, serving families and vacationers visiting this theme park city. The second Florida location opened April 2012 in Tampa, Florida. Tampa, just southwest of Orlando, caters to the vacationing adult. Miami was the third Fox location, located between the Miami River and the Florida Everglades. The fourth and final city, Ft. Lauderdale, welcomed Fox customers in June 2012.
“Entering new markets is very exciting for Fox,” Knight said. “We have gained immediate customer acceptance in these new markets, and we will continue to grow due to the value we provide the customers.”
Privately held Fox Rent A Car, founded in 1989 as a discount brand, now operates 17 corporate-owned locations servicing major airports in the United States. Fox also services international and domestic airports through affiliated car rental companies.
Fox Rent A Car - Two Rental Car Unknowns Bring Deals to Florida
Ah Florida… The land of sun, sand and theme parks is the top destination state in the country. It attracts over 80 million visitors a year, and tourism is the biggest contributor to the state economy.
Orlando is also the largest airport rental market in the world, so it’s no wonder then that car rental companies are all angling for a piece of this pie.
Related Stories New Year’s Resolutions for Car Rental Companies Share the Wheel Without Paying for Additional Drivers How to Avoid Paying Rental Car Extras Tricks to Short Cutting the Car Rental Counter Head to the car rental counters in the major Florida airports, and you’ll find all the usual suspects there—Hertz, Avis, Dollar, Thrifty, Enterprise and Alamo to name just a few. You’ll also find many of the discount brands and smaller regional players both on and off airport.
What you wouldn’t have found until very recently though, is one of the largest car rental companies in Europe, nor the #6 ranked company in U.S. car rentals by market share --two companies that are virtually known by American customers, but are shaking things up in the Sunshine State.
Let’s take a look at these two players and see what they bring to the table.
Fox
Fox Rent-A-Car was founded in 1989 and is headquartered in California. While far from a household name, Fox has been expanding rapidly with recent airport openings in Burbank and Ontario in California, as well as Denver, CO. January 17th will mark a milestone for Fox when it celebrates the grand opening of its first East Coast location in Orlando.
The office is located just outside the airport, with shuttle service provided from the terminals. Fox prices their rentals very competitively, especially in markets where they are off-airport.
Fox’s rates in Las Vegas are often the lowest in the market, although a second shuttle ride is required to get to their office which is not located in the main rental center like most of the other well known brands. An analysis of Orlando rental rates in the coming months shows that Fox is being very aggressive on price in order to break into the market. Fox confirms that Orlando will not remain their only Florida location, so keep an eye out for them in other cities in the coming year.

More Mileage, Less Money - Best Rental Car Value - Fox Rent A Car
April 20, 2010 Entrepreneur Magazine
Best Rental-Car Value Fox
You'd think from the rainbow of rental-car counters at the airport that consumers have numerous choices in this category, but the scene is misleading: No segment of the travel industry has experienced as much consolidation. Hertz is now allied with Advantage, National is teamed with Alamo and Enterprise, Dollar is part of Thrifty, and Avis owns Budget. The inevitable result has been higher prices almost everywhere: The average weekly rate for compact cars went from $199 in 2008 to $346 as of last summer, according to Budget Travel magazine.
Fox Rent A Car remains one of the few independents and the only one competing in more than a handful of markets. Its cars are the latest models--and 2011s are on the way--typically spotless and cost as low as half as what the familiar chains offer. Though heavy on compacts, Fox's fleet includes full-sized SUVs, and hybrids (mostly Honda Insights) are available at all 14 Fox locations in five Western states and Missouri. (Eight additional international affiliates are spread from Toronto to Auckland, New Zealand.)
Fox's slow-growth strategy and low overhead allow it to undercut prices. The company started in 1989 in California and still hasn't crossed the Mississippi. Instead of vast structures with rows of agents, Fox's facilities typically consist of a shack in a parking lot. This can be a drawback, as waits are occasionally interminable, as they can be on its toll-free reservation system. And only five airports have on-site locations, though three more are coming this year. But if you're willing to put up with that, you'll get a brand-name car for an amazing rate. In six cities, you can even upgrade to a luxury vehicle such as a Mercedes or a Mustang convertible for a small additional fee. And a loyalty program rewards frequent customers with discounts.
Best of all, Fox finally seems ready to ramp up its business. Burbank and Ontario, its ninth and tenth markets in California, have recently opened, and an East Coast push is coming next, with an emphasis on Florida. Rental rates there are already cheap compared with those in the rest of the country, but Fox is confident that its can come in even cheaper. Read the full article
Fox Rent A Car Expands Choice System To Additional Locations
April 2, 2010 Los Angeles
After a very successful initial implementation period in Los Angeles, Fox Rent A Car will begin to expand the installation of it’s CHOICE vehicle delivery system in additional Fox locations.
The process, as implemented, allows the customer to complete their rental paperwork at the counter, and then go to the ready area to choose from many vehicles available in the car class that the customer has selected. This format speeds up the rental process, reduces the customer’s time at the counter, and allows the customer the advantage of actually choosing the car they want to drive.
The CHOICE system was originally introduced at the Fox location at the Los Angeles airport. The customer service response was immediate. “Best in the World” responded one customer. “I was amazed to be offered a great choice of so many cars…excellent!’ , offered another customer when responding to the company’s Customer Service follow up inquiry.
“Fox is consistently trying to improve it’s customer service initiatives”, stated Tonia Brown, Operations Manager for Fox Rent A Car. “By allowing the customer to select their own vehicle, they get immediately involved in the rental process and they enjoy it.” If the customer sees another vehicle in a different car class, they can have the attendant change their selection without having to return to the rental counter.
Fox will be implementing the CHOICE system in Las Vegas, San Diego, San Jose, San Francisco and Seattle, and expect to have the implementations completed by July, 2010. Phoenix and Oakland will be in place by October 2010.
Visit the Fox Rent A Car Blog for more information on the CHOICE system and other Fox programs.
